I agree that the movie tries to put the story in a more realistic darker tone with all the characters while being flawed are shown as human with motivations and fears that change and react from their actions and the plot. The advantages of having a movie is there can be more vfx and sfx than the stage while the play can have more interaction and immersion with audience. The director took liberties with the witches and tried to bring about some other changes in tone to the movie. I think the movie went well over all. If I was the director, I would probably just follow the play directly. I support the choice to make the movie gory because it represented the realistic part of how the play was about death, war, and how the old ages were violence.
